Lakeland 100 Training Update 3

This was my first time out with a fell running club called the Dark Peak Fell Runners and it turned out to be a club fell race. I had been in touch with the club and the chairman said he would meet me and run with me. I decided to run with the slower race with the faster ones setting off 15 mins after us. We were given 4 check point and we had to decide on the route in the dark with made it alot of fun.

No matter how hard I try to beat my PB's at the min I'm allways missing them by a few sections, think it might me time for a few tweaks to try and reach the next level.

Winter is well and truly starting to take its toll when I'm out running in the fells the boggy sections are sapping so much energy, the ice make it it hard to get a firm foot placeing with is taking its toll on my confidence when running at speed not sure if Im going to stay on my feet. I fell over 4 time on this run and by the end of it my legs and calfs were ready to explode.

After a shopping trip to meadowhall I still had to fit my run in so I was dropped off 5min from J30 of the M1 and I was to run home. The run was going really well and was on target of a new 10k PB when 5min from the end I tweaked my groin so I had to lip hom but still manage to knock 1min off my PB time so was really happy but a little worried how I would recover.

After a steady run and a rest day I needed to fit my weekends training into one day as we were going to a wedding in the afternoon and after a day on the beer there would be no chance of me getting out on Sunday. I decided to go steady to protect my groin and maintain the same pace, I had hoped to do a marathon but around the 20 mile mark a my groin was starting to give a few pains so I decided to head home but to do 22 mile was really good and staying injury free is the main aim.

A tough run with all the rain we have been having and the drop in tempture there was some very slippery sections followed by bogs. The first ten miles were really quick but the conditions under foot took there toll on me and the last six miles were tough going, hopfully the conditions will improve my fitness when the summer comes I should be in good shape.

Really pleased with todays run after a 16 mile run yesterday I still managed to go under the 10 min mile mark. This is my main aim through winter if I can keep scraping under this average, hopfully when the moor start drting out my legs will be strong and fitness will be high.
